Unusual South American-made  Platycerium andinum
珍しい南米産の ビカクシダ、プラティケリウム・アンディナム の赤ちゃんです。

In origin, it grows into a huge stock, growing on big trees.
原産地では、小山のような巨大な株になって、大木に着生しています。

Just below my face, the upward leaves are the mantle leaves.
That is the first leaf to leave.
私の顔のすぐ下にあるのが、上向きの葉が外套葉と言われる葉で、最初に出る葉です。

The primary role of this leaf is to protect roots from drying.
この葉の一番の役目は根を乾燥から守ること。

The other is to catch  falls dead leaves and bird droppings from which this leaf.
And make it a nutrient.
もう一つは、この葉で、落ちてくる枯葉や鳥のフンなどを、受け止めて、それを養分にする事です。

So, Just to do put on fertilizer this leaf.
ですから、肥料は、この葉の上に、ばらまいて置くだけでいいのです。

Downward leaves are breeding leaves.
Spores are born on this leaf.
下向きの葉は繁殖葉で、これに胞子がつきます。

夏は庭に吊すのがベスト、巨大な台風が来るというので屋内に避難。

This Platycerium andinum is a collected stock from the imported trees.
A small stock of fist became this size in three to four years.
この株は輸入山木よりの分け株です。拳ぐらいの株が、３、４年でこのサイズに。
